Foot WordPress Theme Review

October 7, 2015 WordPress

Foot WordPress theme is probably one of the best grid based masonry themes nowadays. Some of its great features include front-end anonymous content submission, fly-out menu for mobile and tablets, live search, Ajax Login and Ajax Register with Facebook login / register… With all these features added, you could imagine that this theme must be packed with plugins, LOL. Indeed, there are a total of 14 plugins added. Luckily, they all seem to be in working order, there is no plugin conflict yet.

Foot theme comes with 6 homepage layouts named Amazing Grid, Magazine Style, Pinterest Style, Masonry with Sidebar, 100% Full Width… The one I like most is 100% full width, if you resize your browser, your homepage can display up to 5 columns. If you ever need help, try the help file first. The help file is very much documented, actually you might find it a bit too lengthy and comprehensive. When you setup Foot theme, there are a few things you might want to know.

Ajax Login and Ajax Register – After you add the Login / Register links to the Top Bar Navigation menu, and assign Login / Register Handle in the Ajax Login & Register setting, make sure you assign a “Redirect After Login URL” link, that could be your Submit page or Homepage, otherwise registered members will receive a 404 error.

5 Column Grid Homepage – The default setting will display “Your latest posts” in 4 column. Setup a page named “Home” using template “Template – Home Masonry Full 100%”, select “Home” as “A static page” in Reading Settings, Front page displays, and you will get the 5 column layout.

Front End Content Submission – Using the free version of AccessPress Anonymous Post plugin, the field “Author Name” doesn’t seem to show up in the content. So, unless your visitors register, sign in and upload the content, all uploaded content will be assigned to the “Assign Author”. A Pro version of AccessPress Anonymous Post plugin, which costs $25, would give you more features. Some of the useful ones are “Multiple Image Upload”, “More Secure Captcha” and “Send message to the submitter once the post is made live”.

Overall, this theme is well worth the money. If you have a new WordPress project, check this out, it will be a great choice for your magazine / Pinterest / grid style website.
